Medical Policy and Emergency Authorization

Camp Venture recognizes the possibility of an injury or medical complication during session hours. In preparation for such occurrences, Camp Venture has prepared medical responses for two levels of medical emergencies, each with a response procedure.

Minor Injury
Camp Venture implements this level of medical response when presented with non-life-threatening minor injuries or medical complications. Examples of injuries or complications warranting this response include but are not limited to scrapes, cuts, bites, burns, headaches, body aches, and more. Our procedure is to administer basic first aid, including but not limited to cleaning, disinfecting, or bandaging the wound, providing OTC medications as authorized, or any other first aid actions that Camp Venture staff deem fit to address the present injury/complication. Camp Venture does not have an obligation to alert parents of the injury/complication. However, a Camp Venture staff member will make a reasonable effort to reach out to the listed parent or emergency contact to inform them of the injury if it appears to require further attention.

Severe Injury
Camp Venture implements this level of medical response when presented with potentially life-threatening injuries or medical complications. A severe injury is recognized as an injury or complication that requires professional medical attention and likely cannot be safely treated by Camp Venture's staff members. Our procedure is to attempt first aid while making a reasonable attempt to contact the listed parent and/or emergency contact. Unless we receive directly conflicting directions from the listed parent and/or emergency contact, we will request emergency medical services to treat the injury as deemed necessary. Camp Venture staff will provide emergency and/or medical personnel with any and all of the participant's provided medical information. If an injured participant needs to be taken to the hospital, every reasonable effort will be made for them to be transported to the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital located at 6401 France Ave S, Edina, MN, 55435.
